Xplore Rugged Tablets Become First Mobile PC Platform to Improve Beer Delivery Process for Largest Distributor in Caribbean

F5m rugged tablet PCs delivered immediate efficiency gains inside and outside beer distributor’s six Latin American depots

AUSTIN, TX - February 6, 2017 - Xplore Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ: XPLR), manufacturer of the world’s most complete line of high quality rugged tablet computers, today announced that the largest beer distributor in the Caribbean has begun using Motion F5m by Xplore rugged tablets to track and schedule beer shipments among its 600 delivery trucks in the Dominican Republic. The company is also using F5m tablets to run an inventory control management application on its bottling lines and storage areas for the 20 brands it sells on behalf of its parent company, which is currently the largest beer distributor in Latin America and the fifth largest beer distributor in the world.

“As the primary beer producer in the Dominican Republic and the largest beer distributor in the Caribbean, this customer is responsible for massive volumes of inventory distribution on a daily basis. They need well-informed workers who can coordinate and execute logistics, both inside and outside the depot, with precision,” noted Kirk Meyer, Director of Sales for Latin America at Xplore. “Fortunately, they realized that a well-designed rugged mobility solution can directly improve beer distribution processes and entrusted Xplore’s warehouse mobility experts to help them achieve their overall business goals.”

The Caribbean beer distributor, with the support of its parent company, first conducted a 30-day trial period to evaluate the performance of several manufacturers’ rugged tablet and handheld PC platforms across a series of distribution system workflows. Not only did the 10.4” F5m tablet meet the customer’s mandatory computer specifications – such as portability; a resilient, outdoor-viewable display; built-in barcode reader; and hot-swappable batteries – but it exceeded all rugged durability and connectivity technical requirements.

As a result, the parent company placed an order for F5m rugged tablets, along with carrying cases, extra batteries, and multi-bay chargers. Within just 60 days, their investment in Xplore’s solution delivered a 60 percent overall efficiency improvement across the Caribbean distributor’s six regional depots: Simply because they used the F5m tablets to automate the work order process and access real-time data shared between the trucks and the distribution centers.

As noted by Mark Holleran, president and COO of Xplore: “Despite a very competitive selection process, Xplore rugged tablets proved to be the only mobile PC solution that could create the complete mobilized operating model the customer needed– and sustain it, without fail, on the scale that future business growth and emerging technology systems will demand.”

The 3.3lb, MIL-STD-810G F5m utilizes 5th generation Intel® Core™ processors to quickly move through computation-intensive applications while improving overall power efficiency. The beer distributor is now using the tablet in place of paper to generate and complete work orders in the distribution center and print tickets for the driver while on the loading dock to confirm their current freight information.

The Xplore tablets have also been credited with improving the quality of life for residents near the distributor’s depots. Since managers can now access real-time inventory and driver status reports via the F5m, they’ve been able to more effectively schedule and monitor the loading of trucks from the cargo bay. As a result, the warehouse logistics team has improved loading times and gained more control over the timing of trucks entering and leaving the facilities. All of these business process improvements have directly improved traffic conditions surrounding the facilities.

“This fast and far-reaching success this beer producer has experienced is validation of the immediate ROI that global distribution operations gain by implementing a single mobile PC capable of supporting all critical workflows, despite harsh operating environments,” Holleran added.

However, this customer is not the only major brewing or bottling company that is deriving significant process improvements and cost-savings from its deployment of Xplore rugged tablet solutions. At least nine other billion dollar companies are working with Xplore to mobilize their beverage distribution centers and fleets across Latin America.
