Fortunately, a tough tablet tested under MIL-STD-810G standards will reveal its ability to keep sand and dust from sneaking into (open or closed) I/O ports or any other crevices found on the rugged mobile PC device. Xplore Tablets MIL-STD-810G Tested for Sand and Dust-Resistance

All Xplore rugged tablets are, at a minimum, MIL-STD-810G tested and IP5X sand resistant and dust resistant. Some Xplore ultra-rugged tablet PCs are even sandproof and dustproof with an IP6X Ingress Protection rating to completely prevent particle penetration when the rugged tablet is introduced into extremely windy work conditions.

Given the prolific occurrence of dust and sand in most of today's vertical industries, it's imperative that we don't let even a single particle obstruct openings or penetrate into cracks, crevices, port covers, and joints. We utilize MIL-STD-810G testing methods to evaluate each of our rugged tablets' resistance to the effects of dust (< 150µm) and sand (150 to 850µm particle size), and we evaluate the effectiveness of filters used on IP6X rated I/O connection ports when open and the seals used when the ports are closed.

As a result of this testing, and customer demand, we've started sealing some of the most critical I/O ports against sand and dust ingress when both open and closed, beginning with the Xplore XSLATE B10 Fully Rugged Tablet PC. Today, Xplore dust-resistant tablets can effectively be stored and operated in MIL-STD-810G blowing sand conditions without degrading performance, effectiveness, reliability, or maintainability due to abrasion (erosion).
