"The Windows 10 rugged tablet, made by Austin, Texas-based Xplore, is no utilitarian machine. The XSLATE R12 tablet features an appealing octagonal design, a sharp and bright 12.5-inch FHD display, and lots of thoughtful touches. Pairing ruggedness features with a tablet that's actually a pleasure to use is something of a rare feat — so the XSlate R12 may just be worth the investment"

"Xplore says its XSLATE R12 can withstand water, extreme temperatures, and other hazards that would wreck other tablets. But how well does it really stand up to a torture test?"

Update July 2017: "We definitely have a "Holy smokes Batman!" moment" says Conrad H. Blickenstorfer. "The new Xplore XSLATE R12 clocked in with a 3,978.3 in the PassMark benchmark. That's, by far, a new record in RuggedPCReview's benchmark database. So the new top-of-the-line XSLATE R12 is indeed half again as fast as their prior fastest tablet. 49.7% in our testing, to be exact, and we'll give them the missing 0.3%. That's well within the margin of error."
Original Review (October 2016): “First Rugged Tablet to Intel's 7th Gen "Kaby Lake," Xplore's sleek, lightweight 12.5-inch/full 1080P XSLATE R12 Tablet offers dual-mode input, blistering performance, and a wealth of accessories"

"The Xplore XSLATE R12 is an example of how far mobile computing has come over the past decade, featuring hardware that competes with and often exceeds what’s available on laptops with a comparable volume. If you need a rugged tablet that can outpace most laptops and want it now, then the Xplore R12 should top your shopping list."

"For a tablet designed to be equally at home on a desk as it is out in the field or in the car, the Xplore R12 is perfect. It’s not too large to carry around and it’s not too small to work intensely with Windows. "

"The ability to have a single device that is powerful enough to run the robust software applications, ergonomic enough to be used at a desk for hours, portable enough to be easily used in a mobile workflow, and durable enough to stand up to the harsh conditions encountered will be highly valuable."

"There is so much good to write about the XSLATE R12. It is comfortable as both a laptop and a tablet which makes it a good option for those companies whose engineers are currently still using multiple devices. It has plenty of power for more CPU intensive tasks such as CAD based design work and for a rugged 12inch tablet it is a sleek looking and not to cumbersome to carry around, and as mentioned it is certainly capable of surviving a fair few knocks and drops."
