As utilities and public safety agencies looked to increase their productivity, they embraced computers and installed them in their vehicles. Mobile devices rely heavily on their network connectivity, so whether they are tablets, smartphones or IP-based cameras, they need to be online. This is ushering in a new approach to in-vehicle wireless networks. Today, mobile workers need near-constant access to their online tools, and they need it wherever they work. This paper discusses the issues surrounding different wireless connectivity approaches.
